“Now we are much more efficient, much more digital, and much more professional. Participants also appreciate intermediate tests for learning control very much, because they see where they stand.”

The challenge: replacing chaotic paper exams with a structured digital solution

AFC AG’s courses are known for quality, and their customers expect a professional learning experience

AFC AG is a Swiss company specializing in fire protection and sustainability. Their academy trains both internal staff and external professionals through multi-day fire protection programs, some of them culminating in a mandatory certification exam.

Before Easy LMS, AFC AG relied on paper exams. Managing them was inefficient, chaotic, and difficult to scale. Questions were not systematically organized, there was no mechanism to randomize the order, and the overall process lacked the professional structure the academy was aiming for. As AFC AG continued to invest in making its training more digital and more credible, a better exam solution became a clear priority. AFC AG’s courses are known for quality, and their customers expect a professional learning experience.

The solution: digital exams integrated into daily training sessions

AFC AG adopted Easy LMS in 2018 to power its digital exams. Christian integrated the tool alongside their existing LMS, which manages learning content for the course days. Easy LMS handles the exam and knowledge-check layers specifically.

One of the first features Christian put to work was question randomization. Because participants sit their exams in the same room, having each person receive a different question order eliminates the possibility of copying from each other. He described this as a very good feature that immediately improved the integrity of the assessment process.

“You do not have to go through a tutorial or ask 1,000 questions about how Easy LMS works. It is really self-explanatory.”

Christian manages Easy LMS almost entirely on his own. Two or three colleagues have access, but he built the question bank himself and considers himself the tool's specialist. The platform required no lengthy onboarding. He found it self-explanatory from the start, without needing to go through a tutorial or consult documentation to understand how it worked. He also valued being able to contact the Easy LMS support team in German, his native language, which he finds important when evaluating tools.

The results: more professional training, stronger customer perception, and continuous improvement

The shift to digital exams led to benefits across several areas.

A more professional image

Christian noted that the move made the academy more efficient, more digital, and more professional overall. That shift is visible to participants and to the companies that send their staff to AFC AG for training. The academy's courses are priced higher than those of their competitors, and Christian was clear that customers choose AFC AG precisely because of the quality their tools deliver.

Better learning insight for participants

Intermediate knowledge checks allow participants to see exactly where they stand after each training day. Christian valued this not only for the participants themselves but also for his role as course instructor, describing it as simply making his courses better than those without such a mechanism.

Continuous quality improvement through question analytics

Christian highlighted the per-question statistics in Easy LMS as particularly valuable. Being able to see how many participants answered each question correctly over time allows him to identify questions that are too easy and questions that are consistently answered incorrectly, either because the questions and/or answers aren’t phrased clearly enough or because a topic may not have been covered well enough in the lessons. After reviewing the data over several years, he removed outdated questions and introduced new ones, keeping the certificate examination meaningful and current.

Reliable availability

For an academy running live training days with on-site participants, it matters that the exam tool works when needed. Easy LMS has always worked well throughout the years of use, with no software errors encountered. That reliability is a practical requirement for an institution where exams are a formal part of a certification process.

Looking ahead

AFC AG plans to continue digitalizing additional elements of its training, including technical drawings and planning exercises that are currently done on paper. “Our goal is to become even more digital,” Christian said. They are also interested in Easy LMS’ learning path feature, and see potential to consolidate tools in the future.

He also appreciates that the interface has remained consistent over the years. For a small team managing a demanding training program, software that changes completely every two years creates friction. The stability of Easy LMS was something Christian noted as a positive, in contrast with other tools that can become unrecognizable after updates.

“I find it valuable that the interface has always stayed intuitive and familiar. There is software that changes completely after two years and that is not easy. With Easy LMS the constancy is rather positive.”

AFC AG values consistency and long-term stability in its software. As their academy grows, Easy LMS will continue supporting their certification process with reliable, easy-to-use digital exams.
